Job Description

The Program Specialist I, under general supervision, performs specialist duties for the education department in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education.

This position is funded through a 5-year Eagles Teach grant between T.L.L. Temple Foundation and Texas Pioneer Foundation which aims to address the teacher shortage in East Texas. Extension of the position beyond five years will be based on future funding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans and develops specialized programs such as conferences, seminars, lectures, meetings, and workshops to facilitate program goals. Plans, develops, implements, coordinates, and monitors program or services.

  • Provides and coordinates advanced professional level administrative support to programs and may assign duties for specified programs.

  • Confers with staff on program issues and problems. Coordinates specialized program communications and marketing materials.

  • Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of budgets, special reports, and other documents.

  • Attends meetings and conferences to discuss the progress of assigned programs.

  • Serves as liaison between the university and local partner districts to coordinate events and programs aligned with mutual goals.

  • Assists the certification officer.

  • Communicates and documents Charles Butt Foundation scholarship requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • No experience required.

  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.

  • Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in education-related field

  • Five (5) years’ experience working for a public school district in Texas.

  • Two years of related experience

  • Experience in data analysis and creating a database.

  • Experience in event planning

  • Knowledge of Canva or other graphic design applications

  • Experience hiring and managing student workers.

  • Proficient with video conferencing technology

Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
